Maritime Antiques
|
Maritime refers to the sea or ocean. Back in the day and back before then many people traveled by way of the ocean, whether on ocean liners like the Titanic or boats that were used in war like in World War I. Boats and ships were used by the rich and wealthy as well to show the status of the wealthy. But there are collectors that love to collect Maritime antiques. There are museums that have antique displays and some of them are more than 100 years old.
There are many antiques that are in great shape considering they may have been located under the ocean in wrecks or just from the test of time. There are a number of things that an antique collector can set his sights on such as Captain’s bell, anchors, clocks, compasses, diving helmets, fishing nets, telescopes, deck wheel and portholes.
The older the better, the shape of the antiques may not be so great when they come up, if they were in the sea water. Sea water over the years corrode the materials.
Those are the actual antiques because you really can’t clean them up too much because you don’t want to change the make up of the item. But some other pieces are carefully cleaned and taken care of. By cleaning up the items, it brings out the details on the item, making it more valuable.
