  Antique Medical Supplies

Have you ever wondered how the people back over 100 years ago studied medicine? With people becoming more and more interested in that area of science, some people are collecting antiques back from the day when medicine was still in its early stages. There are actual medical anatomy books that the doctors used to study with and they also used it as guide to do surgery with. There are the old time black doctor bags; you know the one’s that look like a purse. Every doctor in the world at one time had one of those bags.

Other great pieces of antiques used in medicine were the cord press, this sounds odd but it was actually the press that put the cork in the medicine bottles for the patients, this was used before they had child proof bottles. There are surgical instruments around as well, they look so old that you could not image a doctor performing a surgery with those instruments, the scissors, sutures, picks ( like the dentist uses) files for the bones and tweezers.

Medical journals, medicine books, everything a doctor needed to take care of their patients. From looking at these antiques, you can see that we have come a long way. Check with your local antique shop or you may be able to find something on EBay that would fit right in with your interest in these very early medical instruments.
