Antique Linens
|
There is nothing that says antique than a lace handkerchief from the 1900’s. In 1900’s and earlier the proper etiquette was women carried handkerchiefs in their purses. Their kitchen tables were all made up in cotton table clothes and lace or cotton napkins. On end tables or dining room tables there were white lace doilies. These things made up a proper household, everything was in the right spot and women and young girls were always wearing dresses and the men were dressed so perfectly.
Antique linens are special because people back in the day and through the up coming years took so great care of these that you will rarely see antique linen covered in yellow from years of fading. Sure, the linens are not going to be perfectly white or in perfect condition, because something can’t last 100 years and be perfect.
Local antique stores will have everything from tablecloths, napkins, doilies, pillows, pillowcases, blankets, bedspreads and curtains and drapes. These should be kept in airtight containers because the air over time will turn white, yellow. The antique stores and online stores know how to preserve these types of things. Cloth after 100 years can begin to age and that takes away from the cost of the antique if most of the item is yellow.
